Mount Gambier Airport receives $3.5 million in Federal funding for upgrades

Mount Gambier airport is set to receive upgrades with a 120 metre runway extension, a new heavy vehicle parking area, luggage area and a weather protected passenger drop-off zone.

The new facilities will improve the air travel experience between the major regional centre and Adelaide by providing increased capacity for aircraft types and tourism opportunities for the Limestone Coast, improvement for air freight, domestic commuting and medical and social services.

Minister for Regional Development John McVeigh is hopeful the upgrade will provide more opportunities for tourism and business "This project will unlock the potential of the whole Limestone Coast region, that's jobs and opportunities for business and opportunities for families," he said.

SED prepared the 'Business Case and Economic Impact Assessment for Runway Extension' for the District Council of Grant, outlining the positive social benefits and economic analysis as well as providing advice in relation to governance and funding models that lead to the successful funding application.
